Is Balayage Right for You?

Balayage Works Beautifully For

Single Process Color

$70–80

Root-to-tip color in one shade — the most common service for covering gray, refreshing natural color, or making a bold change. Your colorist selects the formula from either our Goldwell or Wella Professional line based on your hair and the result we're targeting.

Glazing & Toning

$35–45

A glaze or toner refreshes your color between full appointments — it neutralizes brassiness, adds shine, and extends the life of your last color service. Often added after highlights or balayage to lock in the final tone. One of the most underused services in a color maintenance routine.

Partial Foil Highlights

$90+

Highlights applied to the top and crown sections — the areas that catch the most light. Partial foils add brightness and dimension without a full-head commitment, and typically take less time than a full foil service. A great option for first-time highlight clients or those maintaining existing work.

Full Foil Highlights

$110+

All-over highlights or lowlights from root to end for maximum dimension and brightness. Full foils are ideal if you want a significant change, a lighter overall result, or a rich multi-tonal look throughout. Your colorist can mix shades to add depth, contrast, or a sun-drenched effect.

Spot Foil

$5 / foil

Targeted highlights on specific sections — ideal for face-framing pieces, brightening a particular area, or adding accent color without a full highlight service. Often used to freshen up a look between major color appointments.

Ombré Color

Consultation

pricing varies

A seamless gradient from darker roots to lighter ends — one of the most requested color looks for its effortless, low-maintenance appeal. Ombré is priced at consultation because the process varies significantly based on your starting color, desired result, and how gradual you want the transition.

Corrective Color

Consultation

pricing varies

Fixing color that went wrong — brassiness, uneven tones, color that's too dark or too light, damage from box dye, or results from another salon that missed the mark. Corrective work is one of our specialties. It often takes more than one session and always starts with an honest conversation about what's achievable.

Balayage

Consultation

pricing varies

Hand-painted color for a natural, sun-kissed result that grows out beautifully. Balayage is our most popular color service — clients drive from across the MetroWest for it. Priced at consultation because hair length, density, and the result you want all affect the process.

Our Color Philosophy

Two Lines. One Standard.

Most salons commit to a single color line. We invest in two — because no single product does everything perfectly, and your hair deserves the right formula, not the only formula.

Goldwell

Rich Color · Long-Lasting Results

Goldwell is known for its rich, multi-dimensional color that stays true longer than most professional lines. It covers gray exceptionally well and offers a wide spectrum of fashion shades — from warm caramels to cool ashblondes — with consistent, predictable results.

When a client needs deep, lasting coverage or vivid fashion color, Goldwell is typically our first choice.

Wella Professional

Precision Formulas · Vibrant Blondes

Wella Professional is trusted worldwide for its precision and versatility — especially for blonde work. Its lifting power and toning range make it our go-to for balayage, highlights, and any service where achieving a clean, bright result matters.

When a client wants vibrant, luminous blondes or precise tonal work, Wella is often the better tool.

Corrective Color Is Our Specialty

Corrective color is one of the most requested services at Brian Richard’s — not because people are coming in for disasters, but because they’ve been settling for “almost right” and finally decided they deserve better.

If any of the following sounds familiar, book a complimentary consultation. We’ll look at your hair, be honest about what’s achievable, and put together a plan.

It depends on the service. Single process color typically needs a touch-up every 4–6 weeks. Balayage and ombré can last 10–16 weeks. Glazes and toners are usually refreshed every 4–8 weeks. Your stylist will recommend a schedule based on your hair and how you want it to look.

Common Questions

Hair Color FAQ

What's the difference between Goldwell and Wella Professional?

Both are professional-grade color lines used in high-end salons worldwide. Goldwell is known for rich, lasting tones and exceptional gray coverage — especially in deeper and fashion shades. Wella Professional excels at precision, vibrant blondes, and versatile lifting power.

Having both means your colorist selects the right tool for your hair and your result — not the only tool available. That flexibility is one of the reasons our color holds and looks as good as it does.

Yes, in most cases — but it requires an honest assessment of your hair’s current condition. Chemically treated hair (permed, relaxed, previously colored) can absolutely be colored professionally, but the formula and process need to account for its history. Book a consultation and bring any information you have about previous chemical services. We’ll tell you exactly what’s possible.

All color involves some degree of chemical change to the hair. The difference is how much, and whether it’s managed properly. At Brian Richard’s, we select formulas appropriate to your hair’s condition, recommend conditioning treatments when needed, and don’t push your hair further than it can handle in a single session. If we think a service isn’t right for your hair right now, we’ll tell you that — and give you a plan to get there safely.

A few things make a significant difference: use a color-safe or color-protecting shampoo and conditioner, wash your hair in cool water (hot water opens the cuticle and fades color faster), and consider a weekly gloss or color-depositing treatment if you’re prone to brassiness. Your stylist will give you specific recommendations based on your service before you leave.

Yes — and we encourage them, especially for clients considering a significant change, corrective work, or their first professional color experience. All consultations at Brian Richard’s are complimentary. We’d rather spend 20 minutes understanding your hair and your goal than start a service that takes us in the wrong direction.
